Finding Home by Ann Vaughn

I was fortunate enough to be offered an ARC copy of Ann Vaughn's latest book in exchange for my honest review

I will start off with saying that the beginning of this book was very cute, bright and cheery. I fell in love with Colt and that instant connection that he and Sarah had. The moment that they see each other we feel that attraction, and this is the beginning of a new path for both of them.

As Sarah and Colt get to know each other we learn how she was adopted as a child and has no family left in the word. Colt, feeling sad that she has been alone for so many years starts to dig into her past in hopes of finding her birth parents. Colt's past in the Military make him curious as to the sheltered way Sarah was brought up. Their relationship develops pretty quickly, and you see how cute and fun they are with one another, and how much they grow to care and need one another.

But looking into Sarah's past turns her life upside down, the things that they dig up make her question everything that she has known up to now. When I first read this book, I was expecting it to be a light, fun romance novel. But no, it took the turn into mystery, suspense romance book and I loved every second of it!! The twists and turns this book took was crazy! It shows how much Colt and Sarah loved one another and to what lengths Colt was willing to go to protect her. Even when I thought there wasn't another way I could be surprised Ann throws another twist to the story for me! I was gasping as I read this book. It was a great book to read, one that I highly enjoyed and recommend.

I recommend reading this one as well as her first novel "Long Way Home", both are stand alones, but characters do make small cameos in this book. I cannot wait to read more from her and would highly recommend her to fellow readers!

Long Way Home by Ann Vaughn

"No one said that life and love has to be perfect. There are going to be hard times and heartache on your road. That's an inevitable part of life. But the good times far outnumber the bad, and if you look back at your history with Shane, the bad times were just bumps in the road. You have to have faith  that the good will cancel the bad. You have to believe that"

I will start of this review by saying, I loved how this story started off with the main characters being little kids. It was so cute and enchanting to see them growing up, and not just be thrown into their story from their teenage years or their adult years. I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. I first looked up the synopsis and was very intrigued by this book. There was some very dark, emotional and traumatic parts in this book, but overall it was an amazing read.

This story deals with domestic abuse as well as sexual assault, and while both are very important to the main storylines they are dealt with sensitively and with only the necessary details. These situations were dealt with in a very realistic way. That is one thing that I enjoyed about this book. How realistic these characters were, they were flawed and real.

This book shows us Shane and Tessa's relationship beginning in kindergarten and all up to their early thirties. It shows ups all the ups and downs that this couple has to face.

We begin the story with Tessa and Shane meeting in kindergarten, and Tess telling Shane that they were going to get married one day when they were older. I thought this was one of the cutest things I had ever read. Their relationship begins from there, but its more of a love/hate relationship for most of their school years. Tess makes Shane's life miserable. Up until their senior year in high school they kept clear from one another, but they decide to call a truce and become friends. This relationship quickly turns into a lot more. But life gets in the way, and their future after high school leads them on different paths, paths that makes them change their relationship. Even with the distance though, they kept in touch and communicated as much as possible. I loved seeing their devotion to one another even when not together. You could always feel that connection between the two.

Years past and they continue to keep in contact, but eventually Shane loses contact with Tessa. But a life twists brings them back together once again, and this time working side by side. But their happiness is cut short when their jobs get in the way and intervenes to once again tear them apart. The events that occur are tragic and traumatic, causing Tessa to push Shane away once again. Will life be so cruel that it will find more ways to keep these two apart? Or will Shane be able to prove to Tessa that he will be there for her no matter what?

This book was a definite tear jerker! I wanted to cry for Tessa and everything that she went through, at times I wanted to cry for Shane and his pain. The journey that this couple travels is a long and bumpy road indeed, with giant obstacles in the way of their happiness. The mixture of sadness, love, trauma, survival and happiness is such a rollercoaster ride, once I thought that Shane and Tessa were going to have their happily ever after another obstacle came in their way!
I loved this book, it was so realistic, something that could happen to basically anyone. It's a very deep and emotional book, but one that I would highly recommend people read!

Scarred Love by M.S. Brannon

"Scarred Love", wow what a perfect title for this story. A story of strength, survival, and unconditional love. It shows how much our scars, inside and out, influence our choices in life. This is such an emotional read, one of those books that captivates you from the very beginning until the very end. I got a major book hangover after finishing this book.

Darcie was abused by someone that was suppose to be there to protect her. Feeling as if she has lost hope, but in one last cry for help she screams for her life. A scream that truly did save her life. Reggie, nine years older then Darcie, is there to hear her scream and becomes her knight that night. A night that changes their lives forever.

Nine years later and Darcie is incorporated into Reggie's family, growing up with his brothers and him. Darcie is no longer that little girl that Reggie saved that night, she has grown into a beautiful young woman. Reggie can't help but notice just how much she has changed, and the attraction between them grows. But Reggie does everything in his power to protect Darcie from danger, even if that means having to hide his feelings and push her away.

Darcie begins to realize that she has feeling for him, and she knows that he feels the same way. She does not care about the age difference, no matter what Reggie does to push her away. We see their relationship unfold and blossom as the book progresses. But this book is not only a book about their relationship unfolding, but also a story of survival. Both Reggie and Darcie come from troubled past, but have fought their way to become better and stronger. With the help of one another they push past their demons. The family that they have formed becomes their support system.

I seriously LOVED the way that the author made their past such an important part of the story, it made them who they were. The story itself was magnificence, so well written. It dealt with the struggles, each of the characters situation was wrapped in the story and dealt with in such a way that brought light to the situations. I love how strong of a character Darcie is, she is a survivor and even though she struggles with the demons of her past she does not let that stop her from her happiness.

This story is not without its plot twists, and ups and downs. But they were essential to the story, the way that it all comes full circle for Darcie and Reggie is incredible. Yes you will go on a roller coaster ride, deal with deep emotional situations but you will love every moment of it and you will not want this book to end!

The character in this book were so well developed, by the end of this book I  felt as if I was part of this unconventional family. I cannot wait to read more from M.S. Brannon and I suggest you go and get a copy of it ASAP!!
